Private flights to Bacolod, Negros Occidental

Bacolod is the capital of Negros Occidental, the sugar province, and the city of the MassKara Festival every October. Its airport sits in Silay, a heritage town of ancestral sugar-baron houses half an hour to the north, and The Ruins, the shell of a mansion lit up at night, is a short drive away in Talisay. The city is well served by the airlines: daily jets from Manila and from Cebu.

So the private aircraft here is about timing rather than access. MassKara week fills every seat; a meeting in Bacolod that ends after the last departure strands you overnight; a group of three with its own schedule would rather not work around a timetable. From Mactan a chartered Cessna 172 crosses the Tañon Strait and the Negros ranges in about 40 minutes, against most of a day by road, ferry and road again.

The Cebu leg is priced in both directions for the whole aircraft, live in pesos and dollars. Any other pairing, Iloilo, Dumaguete or a sugar-estate strip, is quoted: search it and operators bid within hours. A booking is a request the operator confirms, usually within hours, and nothing is charged until they do.

Why fly to Bacolod

The case for chartering is the day the airline schedule does not work: the festival weekend, the same-day return the evening flight cannot make, the group travelling with equipment or samples for a business visit. For two or three people whose time is billable, forty minutes on their own clock beats a sold-out flight or an eight-hour surface trip.

The case for the scheduled jet is everything else. It is quick, frequent and costs a fraction of a whole aircraft, and for a solo traveller with flexible dates it is the obvious choice.
